Just Win Now, Baby.

How we built a resurrection campaign for Nike out of Nike's own numbers, Nike's own stated goals and a Raiders motto from 1984, the year Nike signed Michael Jordan.

The lead creative: "Just win, baby" becomes "Just win now, baby"

01 · THE PROBLEM

Is Nike actually hurting?

We started by checking the premise against Nike's own filings. The answer is yes, and it isn't one bad quarter.

−10%Fiscal 2025 revenue, down to $46.3B15
−4%Q1 fiscal 2027 revenue, $11.2B, with a high-single-digit decline guided for the year1
12 yrsShares at roughly a 12-year low in August 20264
−13%Nike Brand Digital revenue last quarter1

CEO Elliott Hill, who took over in October 2024, has said publicly that the turnaround is taking longer than he expected.1819 Greater China is the heaviest drag: revenue there fell 22% last quarter.1 North America is the one bright spot: it grew last quarter while China fell.1

02 · THE CAUSE

What's really behind it

Analysts and Nike's own calls point to business decisions, not one bad ad or one bad season.

  • A
Nike stepped back from the stores. From 2017, Nike pulled product from multi-brand retailers like Foot Locker to sell direct. Shoppers compare sneakers side by side in those stores, and the brands that stayed on the shelf took the space.87
  • B
The new products slowed down.Nike leaned on its classics while challengers like Hoka and On marketed running innovation.7
  • C
The classics wore out.Nike put Dunk and other classics into reset, and classic footwear fell about 30% in North America in late 2025.6
  • D
China and tariffs. Both are pressing on sales and margins at the same time.56

03 · WHAT NIKE SAYS IT WANTS

We read Nike's playbook before writing ours

A campaign that fights the client's own strategy doesn't get made. So every creative decision here starts from what Nike has told investors it is trying to do.

"What we've learned through the Sport Offense is that focus wins. When teams get closer to the athlete, the consumer and the marketplace, they make better decisions."Elliott Hill, CEO, Q1 fiscal 2027 earnings call2
Sport Offense

Reorganize around individual sports (running, football, basketball, training, tennis, golf) and lead with sport instead of lifestyle.2

Win Now

The short-term turnaround plan: clear old inventory, cut discounting, rebuild with retail partners.6

New, not retro

More than a dozen genuinely new footwear styles this fiscal year.20

Scarcity

Restore "the scarcity model" for Jordan, with fewer retro launches and smaller runs.2

Last quarter Nike named the sports that are working: global football (soccer) grew strong double digits in all four regions, running grew double digits with share gains, and basketball grew double digits in North America.2 Those three became the sports in our carousel.

04 · THE MOMENT

Nike just lost its face of soccer

On September 18, 2026, Kylian Mbappé ended a Nike relationship that began in 2006, when he was a boy, and joined On, the Swiss brand already taking Nike's running customers.7 On paid him partly in equity and plans its first football boots for 2027.910

That gives the campaign its urgency. Nike has been here before. In 1984 Converse owned basketball, Nike was the underdog, and Nike bet $2.5 million on a rookie. Nike hoped to sell $3 million of Air Jordans in three years. The line did more than $100 million in its first year.1213

  1. Raiders win Super Bowl XVIII. Al Davis says "Just win, baby" in public for the first time.11
  2. Nike signs Michael Jordan.12
  3. Nike becomes the NFL's exclusive uniform supplier, including the Raiders. The deal now runs through 2038.14
  4. Nike pulls back from wholesale to sell direct.8
  5. Elliott Hill returns as CEO.18
  6. Nike shares hit roughly a 12-year low.4
  7. Mbappé leaves Nike for On.9
  8. Nike reports Q1 fiscal 2027 and guides the year down.1

05 · THE LINE

Three phrases from Nike's world

The headline joins three things: Nike's own tagline,3 the Raiders' motto from the year Nike signed Jordan, and the name of Nike's own turnaround plan. Tap each one.

Just win now, baby.

06 · THE DROP

Limited edition. Local only. Not online.

The offer is a set of limited-edition drops of new releases across Nike's growth sports, sold only in person, in short-run pop-up stores open for 30 to 60 days. You can't buy them online. You have to show up.

The pop-ups go into empty retail space with built-in foot traffic. There is a lot of it: CVS has closed more than 1,100 stores since 2022,16 Walgreens has closed hundreds under a plan once set at 1,200,17 and Rite Aid has closed all of its stores.1617

Scarcity and in-person discovery do two jobs at once. They give people a reason to line up, and they put Nike back where shoppers compare and choose, which is where the brand lost ground.

07 · THE CREATIVE

Say almost nothing

Nike's best work shows very little. Every piece holds to three colors, Nike's own condensed typeface and as few words as possible. The silhouettes and the people in the video are generated, not real athletes. The Alphafly carousel uses Nike's own press kit: product photos and frames from the press video.

08 · ALIGNMENT

Every choice maps to something Nike said

09 · THE FRAMEWORK

The brand campaign framework

This campaign is the first worked example of a framework we're building into our content engine. The same steps apply to any brand.

  1. Confirm the problem with the brand's own numbers.Filings and earnings calls, not headlines.
  2. Separate the real cause from the noise.Find what the data actually explains.
  3. Read what the brand says it wants.Stated objectives become the creative brief.
  4. Find the moment.A current event that makes the campaign urgent.
  5. Write one line from the brand's own history.Borrow what the audience already knows.
  6. Tease with almost no words, then drop.Let the swipe and the scarcity do the selling.
